Scholarship Program

Scholarship Assistance Fund Dollars for Scholars scholarships are offered to residents of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Mt. Prospect, Prospect Heights and Wheeling, Illinois. In addition to meeting the residency requirement, the following criteria must be met by all applicants:

  • Must be a current high school senior or have received a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must attend a 2 or 4 year college or university (full time) or vocational, trade or technical school (full or half time) in the 2019-20 school year
  • Must have a minimum overall unweighted GPA of 3.0/4.0 for all academic scholarships or 2.0/4.0 for the Vocational/Trade School scholarship

The following scholarships are available:

Seven One-year $2,500 Academic Scholarships

One Four-Year $2,500 Charles E. Priester Four-Year Renewable Academic Scholarship ($10,000 over four years)

Three One-Year $2,500 George and Christine Winandy Academic Scholarships awarded to students majoring in one of the following areas: science, math, computer technology, education, music, or nursing

One One-year $2,500 Vocational/Trade School Scholarship

 

For scholarships awarded for the 2019-20 school year, the application deadline is Friday, February 15, 2019.

Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Academic Achievement: high school applicants are required to submit their official high school transcript; college undergraduates MUST submit BOTH their official high school and college transcripts; applicants who have earned a GED certificate must submit an official report of their GED examination scores as well as transcripts from any high school(s) attended. 
  • Financial Need: applicants MUST submit a copy of their 2019-20 FAFSA SAR (Student Aid Report) showing the EFC (Expected Family Contribution). This will be added as a separate document to their application.
  • Community Service, Extracurricular Activities and Employment
  • Two Written Essays (150 words or less)
  • Letters of Recommendation (two required)

Top scoring applicants will be invited for an interview with members of the Board of Directors. Following the interviews, a recipient announcement will be made mid-April.  Scholarship winners are expected to attend an awards celebration held in July.
